Renting out sports space should be as easy as booking it.

LocalRec makes Facility OS, booking and payments software for indoor sports facilities, and the LocalRec app for players. It's built in Regina, Saskatchewan, by a software engineer who hosts pickup games there.

The story

From pickup soccer to facility software.

  1. Booking was the hard part

    LocalRec started as a pickup soccer app for players here in Regina. I host games myself, and booking the space never got easier. Some places took bookings by phone. Others had me fill out a form, send an e-Transfer and trade emails until the time was confirmed.

  2. So I built the other side

    Facility OS is the side for the people who rent out the space. It gives a facility a booking page, a calendar for the front desk, and payments and refunds in one place. It took shape in conversations with facility owners.

  3. I build all of it

    I write the player app, Facility OS, the booking and payment code, the backend and this website. I studied software engineering at the University of Regina.

Where I learned payments

More than four years building payments for retailers at Shopify.

What you can count on

How LocalRec treats your facility.

  1. Your booking money is yours.

    • Card payments go into your facility's own Stripe account, not a LocalRec account.
    • 0% LocalRec booking commission. Stripe charges its own card processing fees.

  2. Prices are public.

    • Operate and Grow are listed on the pricing page and billed per facility.
    • See plan prices

  3. Few settings to learn.

    • Pick one way customers pay: card at booking, Interac e-Transfer with an optional deposit, or at the facility.
    • Booking length, steps and buffers come set up, so there's nothing to configure.

  4. Customers book on the web or in the app.

    • Your booking page works in any browser, and players can also book your spaces in the LocalRec app for iOS and Android.
    • In the app, a booking can become a pickup game other players join.
    • Regulars can ask for the same time every week in the app, and you book every free date in one go.

  5. Help with setup if you want it.

    • Set up your facility on your own, or our support team will set it up with you.
    • On Grow, import customers from a CSV file or a Mindbody export.
