Basketball court rental booking system for facilities

LocalRec Facility OS is booking and operations software for indoor sports facilities in Canada. For a basketball facility, it rents each court by the hour as a full court or as two halves. A half-court booking closes the full court for that time, and a full-court booking closes both halves. Teams book on the web or in the LocalRec app, and your desk books callers onto the same courts.

LocalRec takes no commission on your bookings, and every price is in Canadian dollars.

Where basketball court rentals break down

  • Practices want one basket, games want both

A youth team running drills needs half a court, so you rent it for less. A men's league game needs the full court. Sell them from separate lists and a practice gets booked into the hour a game was promised.

  • Several courts, one question at 6 pm

With two or three courts, the desk keeps getting asked which court or half is free tonight. If the answers sit in one person's texts and a sheet behind the counter, nobody else can say.

  • Tournament weekends take every court

A club tournament can hold every court from Friday night to Sunday afternoon. One court left open online that weekend turns into a refund and a call to the team that booked it.

How LocalRec rents out basketball courts

  • Full courts and half courts from the same floor

Add each court's east and west halves by name, then build the full court and each half from them. A booking on Court 1 takes both halves off sale. A booking on one half leaves the other half open and closes the full court. To rent every court at once for a camp, add one more rental built from all the halves.

  • Cheaper halves, higher evening rates

Each rental has its own hourly rate, so a half court for practice can cost less than the full court for a game. Add a higher rate for weeknight prime time, or set a rental to price on request for groups you quote yourself.

  • Every court on one calendar

The day and week calendar shows every court and half side by side. Staff take a phone booking with the customer picker, see a conflict before it saves, and mark each group as arrived or a no-show.

  • Tournaments held as blocked time

Block every court for the tournament weekend and the booking page shows them all as taken. Block it early: if a team already holds a court in that window, LocalRec won't add the block until you move or cancel that booking.

  • Coaches book their own court time

A coach picks the court or half, the day, the start time and the length, then confirms with a 6-digit code emailed to them. On the web there's no password to create and nothing to install.

  • How teams pay for court time

Your facility picks one way teams pay: card at booking into your own Stripe account, Interac e-Transfer, or at the facility. With e-Transfer you set how much is due up front, staff confirm each transfer, and you get a reminder before an unconfirmed booking is released.

An example week on two basketball courts

A made-up week to show how full-court and half-court rentals share two courts.

Monday
Two youth teams practise at 6, one on each half of Court 1. The desk enters a rec league game on Court 2 from 7 to 9 for the league organiser.
Wednesday
A parent tries to book Court 2 at 6:30. The booking page doesn't offer it, because a trainer holds the west half for a shooting session. Court 1 is free, so the parent books that instead.
Thursday
A men's team rents Court 1 for 90 minutes at the weeknight rate while a trainer works on half of Court 2.
Friday to Sunday
A club tournament. Both courts were blocked a month ahead, so no court or half could be booked that weekend.
Sunday evening
After the final, a walk-in group asks for an hour on Court 2. Staff book it and record the cash against the booking.

From sign-up to your first booking

  1. Open your account

Sign up with your work email and add the facility, its location and its courts.

  2. Lay out each court

Add each court's halves by name, then build the full court and each half from them, with a rate for each.

  3. Set hours, policy and payment

Add opening hours and your cancellation policy, and choose how teams pay. Upload a waiver if youth groups need one signed at their first booking.

  4. Share the booking page

After a quick verification, your booking page goes live. Send the link to the coaches and leagues who already rent from you. Email our support team at support@localrec.ca if you'd like help setting up your courts.

Questions owners ask

Can I rent a basketball court by the half?

Yes. Set each court up as two halves and create a rental for each half and one for the full court. Two groups can hold opposite halves at the same time.

How do I keep the courts free for a tournament?

Add blocked time on the courts for the tournament dates, and they drop off the booking page. If a booking already sits inside that time, move or cancel it first, then add the block.

Can I hold my courts for league night?

Yes. Block every court for league night, or have the desk enter the league's bookings under the organizer's name, so nobody can book those courts online.

Can I charge more for a full court than a half?

Yes. Every rental has its own hourly rate, so the full court, each half and all courts together can each cost something different.
